Soothsayer

‘Unto us a fate is born
Of wondering within each tick of time.
To move at said steady rate
Unable to move aside.’

She said these words
Feeling the barriers close in.
‘Witch, demon!’ they cried out
Their fury a white hot brand.

And knowing they would follow,
She ran.
Not from fate, but to wait
For those few honest to show themselves.

For they knew it was she
Who had seen the two lovers,
Though women,
To safety.

And the prince,
To be murdered before he’d grown,
Was soon to be king
From what she foresaw.

And many others,
Who looked in her eyes and saw truth,
For though she praised a different ‘spirit’
She only ever meant well to all.

But she could not hold back the bitterness
Of hate,
And the coldness
Of fear.

As she waited for her own end.
